Sixties are so back this season

Fashion is cyclic. So sixties fashion has never really went out and it keeps coming back. Retro-inspired TV shows are helping it in this. First Mad Men now Pan Am is are returning the sixties fashion back, oh but not only them. Designers have incorporated the sixties trend into their Fall 2011 collections. Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada and Burberry Prorsum have shown off some heavily sixties-inspired designs in clothing as well as outerwear.

Sixties-inspired dresses varied from full-skirt evening frocks with low decolletage to geometric shift dresses with high necks. Knee legnth and short dresses come in a variety of bold colors and prints. Drop waist and oversize buttons could also be seen on the runways.

How to wear it: Wear a bold shift dress with bright legwear as seen at Fendi Fall 2011 RTW fashion show. Accessories in patent leather and vinyl are both trendy and stylish. Complete the look with chunky bracelets, bold rings, and a headpiece.

Bell Bottoms

Bell bottom pants paired with blouses and long tunics with high necks are also the sixties’ influence. These are great at elongating your figure adding a few inches to your height if paired with high heeled shoes.

How to wear it: Opt for high waist bell bottom trouser for a classy look in a bold hue and complete the look with a chiffon blouse or a high neck tunic. Avoid the latter if you have a short neck.

Sixties outerwear included swing coats single and double breasted that could also feature a fur collar and oversize buttons. In Fall 2011 collections you can see plenty of those as well as short plastic rain coats as seen at Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011.

How to wear it: Wear a swing coat with a knee-length skirt or shift dress. The skirt can be longer than the coat while the dress should be a bit shorter. You can define your waist in a swing coat by adding a flattering belt to it.

Patent leather and PVC as well as fur and plastic can be found on runway this fall. We have already featured on how to wear fur this season. Leather and PVC can be worn both in clothes and accessories. Take a look at this Prada Fall 2011 cocktail dress entirely covered with plastic discs. Wear it with bold boots and accessories.

Colors & Prints

Pastels as well as bold hues are equally important for sixties trend. Abstract and geometric mismatched prints, plaid and polka dot could also be seen at Alberta Ferretti’s (above) and Jean Paul Gaultier’s (below) shows.

How to wear it: Go for bold geometric dresses paired with statement boots. Mismatch prints in tops and skirts or pants while wearing one solid piece like a jacket, for instance.

Stilettos, low-heel sandals, leather boots, and kitten heels can be seen in fall collections. Wear them with bright socks or pantyhose.
